I grew up in a house where my mom spent a considerable amount of time picking out gifts. My sister and I had to have the same number to open, she had to have spent the same amount on both of us and she would never, never just phone it in to get us “something”. Even now, mom my spends months selecting and buying gifts and she still counts them and she still counts the money spent on each of us.
I don’t pay quite that much attention to how many and how much each person gets, but I do spend time thinking about what they get. The worst thing for me is to have to just buy a gift card. And I say that with a bunch of irony, because I LOVE to receive gift cards. But if I am going to buy one for someone else, I feel like there needs to be a little something else to go with it.
Gift giving gives me a reason to craft for people I love. And I attempt to make at least one gift each year. This year it was 2. One has already been given, and one will have to wait a few weeks. But, there is a special thrill to know I made it and they like. And that is the perfect gift.
